Vienna police brace for far-right ball, protests
Protesters marched in Vienna's city centre Friday evening to denounce the WKR Ball, one of many events that make up Vienna's traditional ball season but one also that has repeatedly drawn controversy for its far-right links. This year's event was especially criticised as it took place on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Among the guests at the ball were the leader of Austria's far-right Freedom Party Heinz Christian Strache and France's Front National chief Marine Le Pen.
